‘American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior’, OCC’s Foreclosure Plans [Updated]

The rivalry between father and son is about to begin again, as American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior season 2 is set to premiere April 25th on Discovery.

Instead of having to wait all those weeks to see what Orange County Choppers and Paul Jr. Designs will be creating in American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior season 2, we have photos of 6 complete bikes that are going to be featured this season. But before we jump into that, it’s only appropriate to update you on what has transpired between seasons.

The court case between Paul Teutul Jr. and Paul Teutul Sr. has been settled – well, the first one (no news on the second one). While the details of the settlement have not been disclosed, many people are reporting that the Black Widow bike has mysteriously disappeared from Orange County Choppers HQ and its website. Fans are currently speculating that, as part of the settlement, Paul Jr. will be receiving the Black Widow bike.

In regards to Orange County Choppers HQ’s foreclosure, things don’t appear to be looking up for the company. While in the series it was portrayed that things between OCC and their mortgage lender would end well, that isn’t exactly happening – at all. In fact, it appears that OCC is looking to build a brand new headquarters and allow the current one to be foreclosed on. Interestingly enough, OCC would like to build the brand new headquarters right next to the current one.

Plans for the new OCC HQ, which were presented to the Orange County Industrial Development Agency in March, list the new building as being a three-story, 25,000-square-foot facility (down from the 100,000-square-foot one they currently occupy), and would include a 20-seat café – in addition to spaces for manufacturing and fabrication, a retail store, offices, and warehouse space.

Because of the tourism and publicity that OCC brings to the town, it’s likely that the IDA will be forced to approve the tax-breaks required to build OCC’s new HQ, but they’re not exactly happy about it. More than once in the meeting IDA board members commented on the shadiness of the proposition. One board member remarked, “Don’t we then become a party to avoiding a foreclosure? Moving from building A to building B could probably be a way for a business to protect their business from a creditor.” Acknowledging that fact, the chairman of the IDA noted that this project created the appearance of inappropriateness.

To make matters worse, the spokesman presenting the building to the IDA wouldn’t acknowledge that the new building would, in fact, be used for OCC’s new headquarters. Instead, one of the board members had to continuously question the spokesman in order to get him to even acknowledge that Paul Sr. was a part of the deal.

Moto GP at Indianapolis Speedway

Posted in News at Black Dog on August 31, 2011 by blackdogmike

Dave,Chris and Mike at the famous Indianapolis Speedway. We were there for the 2011 Moto GP Super Bike racing. If you have never seen these boys run it is awesome. Handle bar to handle bar at 200 mph.Australian Casey Stoner(Honda) took the checkered flag for first followed by Spaniard Dani Pedrosa(Honda) and Ben Spies from the USA on a Yamaha. The last race was the AMA Vance and Hines XR 1200 with all Harley Davidson power won by the entry from Bruce Rossmyer Harley Davidson in Daytona Beach,FL. The ride from PA to Indy is boring at best but it is still a ride and by looking at the license plates in the parking lot everyone rode, very few trailers to be seen. We saw bikes from all over the country and it was amazing how many countries were represented at the track. Many were wearing their national colors and it resembled a soccer game atmosphere with more noise and smoke, a really good time. The motorcycle industry is certainly alive and well as all the major manufactures had impressive displays in the vendor village. The perfect chance to try the latest gadgets and clothing from vendors I never heard of and items I never dreamed I needed. If you get a chance to see one of these races, take it,whether you like sport bikes or not. They only race twice a year in the US, LaGuna Seca in CA and Indianapolis,IN. If you love bikes, you will like this event.

Dealers mixed on Sunday motorcycle sales

Powersports Business
Tuesday July 12, 2011

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has signed a new law that amends a 1983 act and will allow motorcycle dealers to sell bikes on Sundays as of September. Some dealers have applauded the change and are excited to sell on Sundays, while others plan no changes.

Dan McCarthy, general manager of Brian’s Harley-Daivdson in Langhorne, Pa., told Powersports Business that his dealership is planning to increase its staff on Sundays. The dealership is already open seven days a week, but sales staff weren’t needed as bikes couldn’t be sold.

“I think it’s terrific. We’re a recreational business, and we really need it,” he said of the jump in business expected on Sundays.

He said the dealership has lost unit sales in the past because it hasn’t been able to sell on Sundays.

“If you take a look at the people in this world and what time they have available, Sunday is a very open day for most people,” McCarthy said.

Though McCarthy is looking forward to the extra sales day, some dealers won’t take advantage of the new opportunity. Mike Miller, owner of Ray’s Yamaha in Reading, Pa., said he will stick with his Monday through Saturday workweek mostly to give his employees a guaranteed day off.

“We will not open [Sundays]. We are pretty big believers that one day, Sundays, are a day of worship or a day to actually enjoy the products that we sell,” he said.

Miller’s concern with the law isn’t about competition. He says it will be great for dealerships, like Brian’s Harley-Davidson, that already do business on Sundays, but he’s worried about other dealers who may open on Sundays without expanding their staffs.

“My big problem I think is a lot of the principal owners only look at it as a day to possibly make more money,” he said.

Miller said he wants his employees to be able to spend time with their families and enjoy a social life on Sundays.

The law, Senate Bill 419, was signed by the governor on July 7 and will go into effect 60 days after passage, according to WNEP-TV. The new law does not affect automobile sales, which are still prohibited on Sundays, according to the website of Pennsylvania state Sen. Tommy Tomlinson (R-Bucks), who sponsored the bill.

Big Dog Motorcycles to close after bank takes over

Email|Print|ShareDel.icio.usDiggRedditFacebook|Save|LicenseNow the property of its main creditor, Big Dog Motorcycles has ceased production and can no longer honor warranties, custom builder Cyril Huze reported today on his blog.

After speaking with a receptionist at Big Dog’s headquarters in Wichita, Kan., Dealernews left a message with a company executive and is awaiting a callback.

Rick Fairless, whose dealership Strokers Dallas carries Big Dog, spoke with company president Sheldon Coleman this morning. “Sheldon called me and said the bank was taking over operations, and that the bank was shutting down the production line,” he told Dealernews. “So Big Dog Motorcycles as we know it has ceased to exist. It’s a sad, sad day.”

Fairless has been an enthusiastic Big Dog dealer since opening his doors. “This was in ’96 when nobody was really doing the production custom motorcycles like that,” he said.

Fairless is down to five Big Dog units on his showroom floor and expects to take a loss on each. “But we saw this coming,” he said. “I went through this with the original Titan Motorcycle Co., and I went through it with American IronHorse, and I went through it with Wild West.”

What about replacement parts? “There’s going to be a new company formed by Sheldon that’s going to continue to make and sell parts for Big Dogs,” Fairless said. “So those guys aren’t going to be out in the cold.

“The guys who are going to be out in the cold,” he added, “are the guys who have a warranty that will be null and void.”

All Big Dog motorcycles came with a two-year warranty. The company started producing motorcycles in 1994 and has built more than 25,000. In 2010 its lineup include seven models in three classes — pro-street, chopper-style and touring.

We ran into from Randy Simpson of Milwaukee Iron at the V-Twin Expo, and he wanted everyone to know that Milwaukee Iron is back in business:

“After my little “break” from work, I made a deal… to go back to work! I think most of my time after that was spent acquiring equipment to get back to work with, and setting up a new 60′x75′ building on a major road just 15 miles south of where we were.

We still spin our fenders on our tooling for all Spun Series Fenders and of course, the Signature Series as well, is done how we originally designed them. We build far more bolt-on fenders than any other manufacturer on the market today. We still offer our Fork Cups with Internal Stops and our Internal Stops for frames with non-removable cups. All, of course, were done at Milwaukee Iron first.
We offer Steel Dashes in three lengths 19-, 21- and 23-inch, with straight or tapered for models 1984-90, 1991-95, 1996-99 and 2000 up.
I really look forward to working with you in the future on any frame work such as straightening, raking and stretching or reconditioning older frames with new necks, sidecar loops and read axle blocks, all done on our original Harley-Davidson frame table.
We are back in action, and located at 10613 Wards Rd., Rustburg, VA 24588. Come by and see us or call us at 434-821-1044, or use the old number, 434-385-1044. Check out all we have to offer at www.milwaukeeiron.com.”
